Proverbs 10:13 NIV

“Wisdom is found on the lips of the discerning, but a rod is for the back of one who has no sense.”

An old English proverb echoes this by saying, “life is hard, but it’s harder when you do stupid things.”* Pretty appropriate and true. Another, perhaps more accurate, translation of this verse speaks of the discerning person “laying up wisdom”. In other words they have developed patterns and habits that feed their mind and soul wisdom. Later when it is needed and appropriate to share they have it ready and close at hand. There are men in my life that always seem to know just the right thing to offer at the exact moment I need it. They have a life time of storing God’s wisdom. One of the reasons I took the challenge to be in a chapter of Proverbs daily many years ago was the realization that I needed God’s truth and wisdom close at hand to effectively and successfully navigate life in a world of disfunction and confusion. These devotional thoughts that accompany a verse from each days chapter are not for you or others. Don’t misunderstand, I certainly hope they occasionally encourage or challenge you. However, since day one these are truths I desperately need in my journey. After years in a secular grad school studying counseling and psychology it became apparent that they inserted a mishmash of theory for God’s pure wisdom. Today find wisdom and wise counsel in God’s word. #BeTheEdge
