“The wise store up knowledge, but the mouth of a fool invites ruin.”
Ever said something and immediately felt stupid and wish you had stayed silent? That is a piece of what Solomon is referring to in this verse. As with most of scripture it goes much deeper than just that. Wisdom includes the very powerful element of being a learner. The wise person pursues Godly wisdom and knowledge from trusted sources, mentors, teachers and others, resources that are tested and find their foundation in God and His word. As they accumulate that wisdom they store it for appropriate times. Another powerful attribute of the wise person is timing. They are attuned to the situations they find themselves in and know when it is appropriate and helpful to speak and when it is better to stay quiet. Just because we may have something applicable to say doesn’t mean it is necessarily beneficial to say it all the time. Knowing when to speak and when to be silent may often be the difference between impact and ruin. Today allow God’s Spirit to guide you into sharing or silence. #BeTheEdge
