Proverbs 10:5 NIV

“He who gathers crops in summer is a prudent son, but he who sleeps during harvest is a disgraceful son.”

I confess I raised a millennial. A lot of us did. You know the ones. Our kid was never wrong but if somehow they were it was someone else’s fault and we needed to fix it. They got trophy’s, ribbons, and prizes just for showing up, at least showing up some of the time. I know this is a way too broad generalization of an entire generation. At the core though is some truth. Maybe even an eternal truth about mankind. There has always been those who don’t want to put in the work but do want to share the benefits of those who do. Scripture is full of cautions about being one of those and the consequences they face. Solomon also reminds us that it can bring shame or praise on a parent depending how their child operates. My kids work in very challenging, unique, professional (yes, that’s called boasting) situations and they each work diligently as they do. It makes me proud of them (to their moms credit😊). Beyond a reflection on parents and the individual there is also a level of poverty and misery that they experience and flows into the lives dependent on them. Solomon is not just offering redundant advice. This specifically addresses a crucial consideration and behavior for parenting and personal work ethic. It deserves pondering. Today consider how to continue applying this truth in your life story. #BeTheEdge
