Proverbs 11:7 NIV

“Hopes placed in mortals die with them; all the promise of their power comes to nothing.”

“My hope is built on nothing less than…” if you know the hymn it probably finished in your mind. Without using the hymns lyrics how would you fill the remaining words. If we are being completely honest all of us probably have had our own sources of hope other than Jesus at times. When my wife’s cancer battle was coming too it’s end I remember standing at the top of the hill in front of our home and reviewing my options to save her. I had exhausted every one of them. I remember shouting out “I’m helpless to save her!” At that very instance I remember the overwhelming impression that I may be helpless but I’m never hopeless. God reminded me of what Jesus said in the sermon on the mount. ““You’re blessed when you’re at the end of your rope. With less of you there is more of God and his rule.” (Msg). I realized that day that we are truly helpless at all times. No matter what we think we can turn to it can all be gone, broken or let us down in an instant. Think of one person or thing you can never loose. I can create a scenario where they are gone when you need them most. I hope it never happens. The point here is that even when we don’t realize it we are always potentially helpless . However, as God’s family we are never, ever hopeless. Today live like your help comes from above knowing you are never hopeless.

“But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in him.” Jeremiah‬ ‭17:7‬ ‭NIV‬‬
