Proverbs 13:1 NIV

“A wise son heeds his father’s instruction, but a mocker does not respond to rebukes.”

If it seems to good to be true it probably is.  You tend to get what you pay for. Fatherly instruction that I knew was good counsel…but I also knew I knew better. Well, I certainly thought I did. So I tried my plans and discovered the wisdom in fatherly counsel first hand. David gave Solomon and Solomon gave Rehoboam great counsel. Solomon was one of the wisest men who ever lived. With all that wisdom, fatherly advice and grandfatherly counsel he was destined for greatness and wise rule. Not so fast. Rehoboam, Solomons son, ignored his dads example, except for the multiple foreign wives, and he also ignored the wise counsel of the men who had counseled his dad. Instead he listened to his buddies, the guys his own age who he grew up with. Their counsel was immature, abusive and as a result the kingdom of his ancestors suffered. In the same way we find a lot of todays leaders ignoring the precepts of God and listening to their contemporaries. We often find the blind leading the blind. In government, education and sadly, at times, even in the church we see confusion and ignorance embraced as “wisdom”. Gods Truth is still at our finger tips and as vital to life today as it was in Solomons day. Perhaps even more so. Today look to the wisdom of your Godly elders and heed their instruction. #BeTheEdge
