Influencing culture for the Kingdom

Proverbs 13:15 NIV

“Good judgment wins favor, but the way of the unfaithful leads to their destruction.”

I went to a funeral once, they called it a celebration. It was for a young man who died suddenly from a flaw in his heart. It was a beautiful celebration of a life that felt way too short but had been very well lived. I went to another funeral of an older gentleman where it appeared the people who shared were struggling with what to say that would reflect a kind, caring life. There are essentially two reasons to be aware of your coming death. For one group it is that scripture tells us very clearly that we all have an appointed time to die and then eternal life begins. The other is simply conscious that life is moving on toward their death, untimely or otherwise. The first most often reflects a follower of God who is comfortable with the fact that everyone eventually dies, and that our days have been numbered since before birth. They realize God is involved in every step of our journey as we invite him as our creator to write our story. The other is sadly a person who chooses to live what Solomon calls an unfaithful life that starts at corruption and leads to destruction. There is probably never a better time to get a glimpse of the difference between these two approaches to life and ultimately eternity then at a funeral. We are reminded in this verse of the stark difference. The rest of scripture shows us what those choices look like and how to be ready. Today choose life. #BeTheEdge
