Proverbs 14:20 NIV

“The poor are shunned even by their neighbors, but the rich have many friends.”

This is more a reflection on others than the rich or poor. It shows the selfish and self serving nature of those who build friendships based on what they hope to get from others. Jesus talked a lot about the poor. It is a hard indictment of a society and even more so a Christ follower who does not recognize the God imprint in every person and most clearly in the poor. Mother Theresa was the antithesis of this verse. Her quote that, “Only in heaven will we see how much we owe to the poor for helping us to love God better because of them” is a powerful insight into how and why God allows them in our story. Jesus went so far as to declare when we treat them kindly and with dignity we are doing it to Him. The implication there is that if we don’t treat them with loving kindness or ignore them all together we are also doing that to Him. We cannot love Him and hate the poor. He actually reminds us that we cannot love Him and hate anyone. Today love Jesus and be kind to all. #BeTheEdge

“The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’” Jesus
