Proverbs 17:1 NIV

“Better a dry crust with peace and quiet than a house full of feasting, with strife.” Proverbs 17:1 NIV

This verse makes Solomon sound like an introvert, however, the stories about him in scripture make that seem highly unlikely. Something else is up here with him. As an introvert I could be happy with a dry crust and peace and quiet most times. Typically, we would all have to admit that there really is nothing very desirable about a dry crust to munch on, maybe as a crouton. The tension here is that as desirable as feasting can be, and with my family you can trust that feasting is a huge part of our gatherings, after a period of time strife makes it not worth it. Peace and quiet really are gifts from the Lord. Quiet alone can be a nice offering but throw in peace and it is a treasure. There are a lot of times when many people I know would trade peace and quiet for almost anything else in their life. When we are young, we are chasing a lot of things – career advancement, influence, things, and stuff. As we get older, we tend to find opportunities for peace and quiet to be hard to find and more precious than ever before. In a noisy busy world Jesus took time every day to find a place of quiet and would slip away to hang out with His Dad. Seems like a pretty good example for us to follow. Today, enjoy good times but never allow the need for peace and quiet to be ignored. #BeTheEdge

“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” Jesus
