Proverbs 17:2 NIV

“A prudent servant will rule over a disgraceful son and will share the inheritance as one of the family.”

Most parents don’t wish someone else’s child was theirs. Ok maybe some do. The point is that we all love our children. In over 40 years of working with teenagers I had many of them get angry with a parent and tell me that their parent didn’t love them. In that entire time I can only think of one where that might have been true. What Solomon is telling us is that a good parent knows that there may be a time when a trusted servant would be a better option to handle the families business. Solomon would have been familiar with the circumstances he describes in this passage. Even in Jesus day we see examples of the families resources turned over to a trusted staff rather than an irresponsible or disgraceful child. In the kingdom of God we also find times God appears to trust a believer who would never be considered for their role because of worldly standards and position. Jesus chose 12 disciples to launch His kingdom on earth who failed every perceived Rabbi preparation plan they could imagine. Today, as an adopted Son, live a prudent life and handle your role in the Kingdom responsibly. #BeTheEdge
