Proverbs 17:20 NIV

“One whose heart is corrupt does not prosper; one whose tongue is perverse falls into trouble.”

Not long ago I had lunch with a local ministry leader. Deep into some great conversation about how to improve an area of their job they abruptly stood and said “My boss says I only have an hour to be back at my desk.” I have worked with people over the years who seem fixated on certain potential flaws or areas of weakness in others. They live expecting to be taken advantage of or at least fear that others are untrustworthy. Granted they have been occasionally correct but more often than not it has been an unfair prejudging of others. During that time I observed that very often the thing they fear the most in others was a flaw in themselves. Solomon makes that point here. The deception or corruption of their own heart is feared and projected on others. It’s a miserable way to live and an awful way to lead. The person concerned about someone not putting in their full 8 hour day created an almost prison like atmosphere to be sure no one got away a minute early or toke an extra 5 minutes for lunch. That leader often abused their freedom or lack of accountability and lived in fear others would do the same. Whatever the issue is be sure it is not a mirror that needs to be addressed in your own life rather than another’s. Today lead from trust and if it’s broken then address it. #BeTheEdge
