“An inheritance claimed too soon will not be blessed at the end.”
Sounds a little Prodigal Sonish doesn’t it. A little too much too soon. And with wrong motives and a serious lack of respect. That’s a bad combination. Solomon tells us what a lot of us have seen. When someone comes into money, unearned, too early in life, they seldom know how to handle it wisely. They also don’t usually come into it with a proper respect for the work that went into earning it. The result is often an unhealthy approach to the responsibility God expects those of means to operate with. One of the reasons God’s word talks more about money than love or anything else is because He knows that area is more likely to cause a person to stumble than any other. In this verse Solomon is not only referring to the person who gains an inheritance to soon but he also references the person who gains it unjustly. I’ve watched a few people over the years either manipulate their parents will through taking advantage of a feeble parent or outright take things never intended for them. It’s pretty shocking to see. In the end they are disappointed and typically find out it does not bring the happiness or satisfaction they crave. The truth revealed in this verse is that pursing unearned wealth selfishly is a waste of time and life. Today focus on the inheritance that matters with your Father in heaven. #BeTheEdge
