Proverbs 23:24 NIV

“The father of a righteous child has great joy; a man who fathers a wise son rejoices in him.”

This time of year we see lots of family from all over converge on someone’s home to gather together to celebrate the birth of our savior. It doesn’t matter what the financial status, politics or prestige of the members. It is about celebrating as family. At least it should be. I love my kids and their spouses. It’s not just because they have provided my 8 grandchildren, although that doesn’t hurt. I’m proud of each of them. They strive to live good lives and to be great spouses and parents. They are exceptional children to this aging saint. As God looked down on the first Christmas it must have been an amazing scene. Obviously He orchestrated the whole thing but to an unsuspecting world with what He knew I would imagine He was positively gleeful. At the same time He knew the pain and suffering coming to the innocent child and His mother. Joseph was an amazing man and a model step-dad. Can you imagine His heart seeing this child who was promised by an angel and sent to redeem the world. The responsibility to manage the growth and development of the Heavenly Fathers Son was mind boggling. I’m not making a particular point. The goal of this devotion is to get us considering the vast realities of the Savior’s birth. Today reflect on the baby in a manger, the Savior on a cross and the dads. #BeTheEdge
