“May your father and mother rejoice; may she who gave you birth be joyful!”
The Baltimore Ravens won their playoff game the other day. Within 24 hours I saw head coaches, NFL players and a variety of other celebrities as well as many other people on social media begin sharing a clip of their coach’s opening remarks following their victory. Everyone was celebrating that his first comment was to give proper glory and recognition to God using a passage of scripture from the Old Testament. In this verse Solomon is talking about how parents feel when their child acts wisely in representing God with their life. This is not at all unlike how John Harbaugh made many of us feel with his bold and clear representation of God. As a parent I celebrate whenever one of my children or grandchildren show Godly wisdom and behavior. This is a beautiful image of how God also rejoices when one of His children lives wisely for Him. Steve Brown once said that the greatest gift we give one another as followers of Christ is a life of faithfulness to Him. This is seen when we receive a positive report about a brother or sister in Christ. There is a joy in our spirit as we celebrate that faithfulness. Today serve God and bless your fellow saints. #BeTheEdge
