“it will go well with those who convict the guilty, and rich blessing will come on them.”
I have a number of friends who either were or are judges. I kid them about how in Matthew Jesus tells His followers not to judge or they will be judged the same way. This verse seems to give a slightly different view of that. Here Solomon is encouraging leaders to hold wicked people accountable for their actions. But there are many ways to accomplish that. Jesus talks about knocking the dust off their shoes when instructing them on how to respond to communities that don’t accept their message. Certainly a broad stroke judgment. This verse is a continuation of his instruction about judges who accept bribes. Obviously a very bad practice. It also continues from the idea that we are seeing more and more people these days calling wicked good or justifying evil as ok. There are many practices in society, always has been, that go clearly against God’s laws that the world works hard to make ok. I do not want to get political, however from a biblical point of view there really is clear truth about some things that even my small grand children know are wrong. Our job is to stand firm on His truth in our story. It is critical that we not give way when it comes to affirming His truth verses going along with the latest trend. It is not a harsh stance. If it’s God’s truth it is the most loving position. How we stand firm is the key to being loving. Today live His truth. #BeTheEdge
