“Do not wear yourself out to get rich; do not trust your own cleverness.”
I once had an investment advisor tell me that when I thought something was a good idea to put some money in he ran from it as fast as possible. I chuckled. He didn’t. He then told me not only did he stay far from all my investment suggestions he immediately informed all his clients to avoid it as well. That is a 100% true story. Ultimately I can’t blame him. I should probably recommend him as a wise advisor. The IRS once labels me as “the world’s worst businessman.” Then God put me in charge of a ministry to business leaders. Who said He doesn’t have a great sense of humor. With that investment reputation I certainly have no business trusting my own cleverness in try to accumulate wealth. I now give it to Richard and he handles it…pretty much without my input. I know many very wise business leaders. Instead of trusting cleverness they work hard and use the knowledge and talents God built into them to grow their companies. The very best do not simply have the goal to get rich either. They know they are building lives. Their calling is to create services, products or resources that enhances people’s lives and doing it in such a way that God is honored through their efforts. They also know that God’s will done God’s way won’t lack God’s blessing. How that blessing looks is up to Him and ultimately better than what the world pursues as valuable. Today pursue God and everything else will fall in place. #BeTheEdge
