Proverbs 24:10 NIV

“If you falter in a time of trouble, how small is your strength!”

By all accounts, Paul was a squirrelly little nerd with bad eyesight. Peter seems to have been the opposite. While Peter was a rugged fisherman who spent his life on the seas battling the weather—at times under the brutal Middle Eastern sun hauling in nets—Paul appears to have spent his time indoors reading and studying, at least until he became the persecutor of the new followers of Jesus. However, after being literally knocked off his high horse, Paul often found himself targeted by those who wanted to kill him. Once, he was stoned to the point that he seemed dead—maybe he was. He was chased and smuggled out of town. He was shipwrecked, and the list goes on. In fact, there’s a great account of all he faced in his letters to the Corinthians. Solomon encourages us, as God’s followers, to be tough, resilient, and strong when we face challenges. Although Paul’s challenges did include a pretty intense weather event, most of them were caused by enemies who wanted to kill him, imprison him, and destroy him. I doubt many of us have faced the level of persecution or difficulties that Paul did. But each of us, in our own way, still faces many challenges. Solomon and God’s encouragement to us is to stand strong and be resilient, knowing that our situations are in God’s hands. He may not cause all of the difficulties we face, but He is on our side and will stand with us. Today, be bold and very courageous. #BeTheEdge
