“It is the glory of God to conceal a matter; to search out a matter is the glory of kings.”
If you’ve been reading these daily devotions from the book of Proverbs for any length of time, you probably realize you’ve seen this verse before. It is one of my favorites. I love the picture of God giving us exciting mysteries to solve. As I mentioned in a prior devotion, I gave one of my grandchildren a mystery with clues that are mailed to her each week. As she solves them, they will eventually lead her to a discovery. At first, she wasn’t so sure that this was much of a gift. But after a few weeks, the report is that she loves it and eagerly anticipates the next clues. In the same way, as a young believer, some of the most exciting moments in my life were when the truth of God—eternal truths—clicked in my mind and spirit, and I understood something new about Him and how He operates. It is a powerful moment when, searching for the mind of God, we discover a glimpse of His deeper truth. Another fascinating element of the journey to discovery is that every time I learn something new, it reveals how much less I know and understand than I originally thought I did. In other words, this journey of discovering the deeper things of God will never end. As Randy Alcorn writes, the journey of discovery continues as one of the great gifts in heaven. Today, seek God and enjoy the journey. #BeTheEdge
