“Then you will understand the fear of the LORD And discover the knowledge of God.” Proverbs 2:5 NASB
My seven-year-old granddaughter loves to tell the joke, “What’s a pirate’s favorite letter of the alphabet?” The answer has always been “arrr.” That would be “R” for those of you new to this humor. Recently she has added a second letter to the pirates favorite list. “X” is the addition because “X” marks the spot. That’s where the treasure is buried. I love a good treasure hunt. God’s Word and the pursuit of Wisdom is His “X” that marks the spot. That is where the ultimate treasure can be found. You see, in this chapter, Solomon tells us that’s where we find God. Knowing God is the ultimate treasure – more valuable than salvation alone, which is the beginning of the journey to truly knowing God. Jesus came to bring salvation to the world through His sacrifice, and He came so that we could know His Father. He once said that when we have seen Him, we have seen the Father. Theologian J. I. Packer wrote a powerful little book called “Knowing God.” In it He challenges us to know about God and also know God through the context of a close relationship with the person of Jesus Christ. I love the beginning of March. It always carries the promise of spring, new growth, freshness in the world, and warmth. That promise seems more needed than usual this year. As we begin this spring, let’s make an effort to know God better tomorrow than we do today, and to know Him when fall arrives better than we did this past fall. Today, recommit to truly getting to know God. #BeTheEdge
