“restraining her is like restraining the wind or grasping oil with the hand.”
Solomon is continuing on with the idea of a difficult marriage from verse 15. He makes the point that although we may try to hide the awful condition of our relationship it is as difficult to do as it is to hold back wind or keeping a hand full of oil (literally perfume). Keeping unhealthy relationships hidden from our brothers and sisters in Christ is also difficult and a bad habit to get into. Accountability in all areas is vital including our relationships. We are to reach the lost and we are also intended to build relationships with them. However the depth of those relationships is necessarily hindered because of the lack of a shared love for God and the presence of His indwelling Holy Spirit. When we have an unhealthy connection to the things of the world through those whose hearts are owned by the things of this world it will eventually become apparent in and through our lives. Our behavior, words and choices will reflect them rather than the things of God. Today keep a healthy balance with the lost and accountability with your Christian family. #BeTheEdge
