“Anyone tormented by the guilt of murder will seek refuge in the grave; let no one hold them back.”
This is a very direct verse. Before Jesus came violation of the law was met with swift justice. The person referred to in this verse was guilty of murdering an innocent person. As a result they found themselves “being pursued by divine vengeance, the horrors of a guilty conscience, and the avengers of blood.” Thankfully today we have the ability to find peace and forgiveness in the resurrection power of the Holy Spirit. That being said, the consequences of sin will still haunt the guilty. It is the conviction of the Spirit that helps remind us of the need for a savior. This verse also reminds us that even in the New Testament those who refuse the free gift of salvation and forgiveness will live in guilt although it does not end in the grave. One of the great tragedies of the rampant suicide in our world is the false belief that it is an escape. Without going into too much spiritual depth those who have not received the free gift of eternal life in Christ during life will not find peace in the next. Those who have will enjoy that peace in eternity. How or why we leave this world has no impact on that. Today be sure your forgiveness lies in the Savior. #BeTheEdge
