“The greedy stir up conflict, but those who trust in the Lord will prosper.”
The comparison here is between those who trust in themselves, their power, possessions and position verses those who trust completely and only in the Lord. The word used for greedy literally translates “open soul”. It is thought to represent someone who is trying to fill their soul with everything they can. Physical. social, spiritual pursuits are their constant hunger. The conflict happens because they don’t care who they use and hurt as they are driven by their own powerful desires. They cause strife and conflict wherever they go and leave damaged relationships as a result. When God’s children walk in their trust of Him their needs are met. Their true needs, ie. love, joy, peace and the other fruits of the Spirit that are a part of the believers core. Prospering in the sense of God’s kingdom can include financial blessing, often does though what that looks like varies widely. But, more importantly it is a sense of a life well lived and under control and at peace. The word prosper translates as fat, content and full. The option is an ‘open soul’ craving something it cannot identify or a soul at rest and peace overflowing with joy. Nor really a difficult choice is it? Today trust in the Spirit of God and prosper. #BeTheEdge
