“Do you see someone who speaks in haste? There is more hope for a fool than for them.”
‘Let God Be True’ puts it this way, “A person that talks fast, talks often, and answers quickly is worse than a fool”. That’s harsh but true. We have all been around people who seem to have something to say about everything, whether they know what they are talking about or not and whether we are interested in hearing it or not. We often may just want to say, “Please be quiet” or something worse. Think about what it means when Solomon says they are worse than a fool. Or at least there is a better future for a fool. A fool is basically an ignorant person who ends up in trouble. I’ve mentioned before that I’m a huge fan of counting to at least ten before speaking. Those precious seconds can mean the difference between blessing and curse or peace and conflict. Sometimes it can be the difference between marriage and divorce. During that 10 seconds the Holy Spirit has an opportunity to intercept stupid or destructive words. The reason I mentioned “at least 10 seconds” is that during that pause we may very wisely realize that no response at all could very well be the most Christlike thing we can do. Today allow the Holy Spirit to control your tongue and speak life or stay silent. #BeTheEdge
