“a servant who becomes king, a godless fool who gets plenty to eat,”
These are two of the four things we are told that the world can not bear up under. They don’t seem so earth crushing do they? However, in Solomon’s time this occurred fairly often. A favorite slave would be elevated to leadership and because they were not raised and trained for the position it would be a disaster for everyone. Kind of the Peter Principle of the ancients. Another danger is that this person may suppose he’s worthy of the position that can cause a pride and arrogance that will also hurt everyone he touches as well as himself. For those reasons it can be earth shaking. The godless fool in this verse literally means an immoral person of means. They have plenty for themselves but it will soon be gone and like the other person in this verse everyone else in their world suffers too. These principles are true in all areas. You have probably seen this play out in business. A wise business owner knows that it is not always a prudent idea to turn their company over to one of their children. There are times it has been done and many people suffer. I was recently with the former senior Vice President of Human Relations for a company that has been in the news a good bit over the past year. It has not been good news. The business made a very poor marketing decision from which they may never recover. I asked him what happened. His explanation was that the founder should have never turned the company over to his son. Today learn the lessons of Solomon’s counsel and give tasks to those gifted to handle them. #BeTheEdge
