“My son, do not despise the Lord’s discipline, and do not resent his rebuke,”
There was a time in the Old Testament when God punished sin and disobedience with harsh consequences. Here Solomon is telling his people and us that God is no longer to be seen that way. Now we are learning that God is not the “offended father punishing their disobedience” but, rather the father correcting them out of love. Even the New Testament quotes these words with approval. Many live with the belief that when we are following God’s design for our story everything will be blessing and happiness. Because of my upbringing it was pretty easy for me to think I must be guilty of something when anything went wrong with my health, family or work. Coming to terms that discipline is a sign of love took a while. It was as I realized my discipline, when handled correctly, with my children was always for their safety and growth because of my unmeasurable love for them. I disciplined them because of my love for and commitment to them. Our Heavenly Father does the same. The difference is that he is perfect at it. Today when God disciplines receive it as coming from the affection of a Father who loves you deeply. #BeTheEdge
