“A wife of noble character who can find? She is worth far more than rubies.”
This is a great verse in the midst of a beautiful chapter. Every month with 31 days affords me the opportunity to revisit Solomons description of what we refer to as “The Proverbs 31 woman”. Up until now Solomon describes mostly women of low moral character and degradation. They are the temptresses of early chapters looking to tempt men of weak character. Here we see a woman not only of noble character but she is a wife who supports the family by example and activity. She also walks in close partnership with her husband. In a day when the very design and nature of the family is under attack we do well to remember and highlight the women, as well as the men, who represent God’s desire for marriage and family. There is great discussion going on about the roles of men and women. Without taking on the whole issue I would suggest we let the creator of life and each individual define His purposes in that creation. The woman in this verse was a highly industrious and successful business woman. I married this Proverbs woman. We raised another. I’m watching four granddaughters grow into the same.
