“She opens her arms to the poor and extends her hands to the needy.”
For many years my wife quietly lived this verse. She didn’t advertise it to the point that my children were unaware of how much mom lived this truth as a part of her story. I saw her do things with young children and their moms that I only knew about because I caught a glimpse. It’s not that she was hiding it, it just never crossed her mind to advertise it. Like the Proverbs 31 woman in this verse she was able to meet many of these peoples physical needs because she worked diligently and had some resources. At a time of our life when we had a very tight budget she never hesitated to dip into what she had earned to help the poor and needy. The word used for hand means physically helping with no fear of her own life slipping into poverty by being too generous. I might have carried that fear a bit back then but it never seemed to weigh on her decisions to help. This woman from Proverbs is a great model for us. Before going to be with Jesus I watched this lifestyle impact and change lives. It’s nothing today to have a ‘stranger’ come up to me or one of our kids and share a story about a time Jennifer met a need for them at a difficult time. Today do the same. #BeTheEdge
