As I get closer to concluding the goal of sharing a devotion for every verse of Proverbs we find ourselves looking at the final verse in Proverbs. Very appropriate. Obviously the ‘Proverbs 31 Woman’ is a well known and beautiful model of what God intends for a women to be. I’m not looking for a political or even sociological argument. It’s in the book, we work it out. Clearly we are to praise this woman and her qualities publicly according to this verse. There can at times be social pushbacks to offering praise for a woman who cares about her appearance and her families appearance. We can also be told there is something negative about recognizing a woman’s understanding of marriage and certain role distinctions between a husband and wife. We have seen times when a diligent hard working business woman is not appreciated as well. There are many beautiful characteristics that our society often minimizes or ignores that highlighted by the writer of this chapter. This is not written to button hole or narrowly define a woman’s role in the world. Quite the contrary, it throws the options wide open. It does emphasize a hard working, family first use of gifts and talents. Men should do the same. Today recognize the freedom to be who we were created to be and allow others grace to do and be the same. #BeTheEdge
