Proverbs 3:21 NIV

“My son, do not let wisdom and understanding out of your sight, preserve sound judgment and discretion;”

The word Solomon uses for preserve in this verse literally means “to watch, set a guard around”. He wants us to be diligent in keeping God’s wisdom and understanding always in our thoughts. When we live with that presence of mind at all times we avoid and protect ourselves from many of the dangers and trappings of Satan. It builds a wall of protection around our every step. The opposite of this is what the writer of Hebrews referred to when he cautioned that if we didn’t pay careful attention to these things we were in danger of letting them slip away. Like the power slowly draining from a car battery that sits unused for months. Tho other image he paints is of a boat owner falling asleep in the bow of his boat and it slipping its moorings at the dock and drifting out to sea. The owner wakes up way out at sea and has no idea where he is. He is lost and in desperate straights. It seems a bit over the top to have to keep God’s wisdom and understanding constantly in front of us but as we observe the world around us we can see the powerful grip of temptation slipping into so many peoples journeys. Today review your practices for keeping God’s wisdom close and strengthen them. #BeTheEdge

“We must pay the most careful attention, therefore, to what we have heard, so that we do not drift away.”
