“Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.”
A friend and business owner once asked me to put together a list of the top ten verses in Proverbs for him to hang around his corporate headquarters. I certainly consider this one of them and perhaps one of the top in all of the Bible. If a child could truly grasp and live out this truth it would set a powerful course for their life. For that matter if all of us did this what a world we would live in. Solomon is referring to our spiritual heart. Full Focus puts it this way, “It is that part of you that connects with God and other people. Just like your physical body, if your heart—your spiritual heart—dies, your leadership dies. This is why Solomon says, “Above all else.” He doesn’t say, “If you get around to it” or “It would be nice if.” No, he says, make it your top priority.” It is always worth asking every morning as we begin our day, “What is my top focus today?” There will certainly be many pressures and responsibilities vying for that position. Solomon wants us to make it God. The way that looks is that we are diligent to protect our eyes, ears and mind from the influences that would seek to damage or destroy our heart. Today, above all else, protect your heart! #BeTheEdge
