Proverbs 4:27 NIV

“Do not turn to the right or the left; keep your foot from evil.”

Who would argue with this? Actually we all tend to. Sometimes we can blatantly ignore what we know is true. Even those without the Holy Spirit have the truth built deep inside. Those of us who claim the name of Jesus have the presence of God’s voice as a constant companion. We certainly know when we are beginning to drift off His path. Evil has always waited for God’s children to stray into its presence but today it is more aggressively open than at almost any time in history. Perhaps stories about the dark ages parallel today’s open demonic rebellion. The point of this verse is that a follower of God follows. We don’t stray for entertainment reasons or selfish desires. We walk boldly in His steps and understand the high calling we have agreed to. Charles Sheldon’s small book, In His Steps, takes this verse to a powerful place. In it a small town pastor challenges His congregation to ask the question “What would Jesus do?” as they live their lives. Want to obey this verse? Live with that question governing your every decision. Before dismissing that question as not necessary in every circumstance remember that scripture makes no delineation between sacred and secular. Everything is sacred to God. Today ask ‘what would Jesus do?’ then do that. #BeTheEdge
