“Then he taught me, and he said to me, ‘Take hold of my words with all your heart; keep my commands, and you will live.’”
Recently, a friend told me that he had read the Bible cover to cover numerous times and knew what it said on almost any topic better than I or most preachers. I think he was right. The problem is that he doesn’t believe any of it. Solomon understood that an intellectual knowledge of Scripture and God’s teachings is worthless without faith. The fact that Jesus called His followers to come to Him with the trust and faith of a child makes that clear. Neither Solomon, Jesus, nor any of the saints of old discouraged the pursuit of deeper wisdom and understanding about God and His Kingdom. However, part of Jesus’ message was that starting a relationship with Him doesn’t require deep theological insight—although I can’t think of anything deeper than the transition from spiritual death to eternal life. Similarly, Solomon’s message in this passage emphasizes that our heart, emotions, will, our entire being, must embrace the truth of God. Today, let the God in your mind invade your heart. #BeTheEdge
“This is the covenant I will make with the people of Israel after that time,” declares the Lord. “I will put my law in their minds and write it on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people.” – Jeremiah 31:33 (NIV)
