Proverbs 5:2 NIV

“…that you may maintain discretion and your lips may preserve knowledge.” Proverbs 5:2 NIV

Solomon spends a lot of time warning about sexual sin. Actually, he does seem a bit obsessed with it. Song of Solomon is overtly sexual and has caused many preachers to struggle with or skip entirely its inclusion in their preaching rotation. I once went to a church where the pastor invited anyone 14 and under to be dismissed to a different area of the church as he preached on the book. This chapter is devoted entirely to the subject of the ravages of adultery. There is added truth throughout Solomon’s warnings about sexual sin though. In this verse we see he starts with the idea that his son will hit adolescence and the stirrings of sexual temptation with these truths deeply embedded in his soul. It is then passed on to his son, as with each of us raised in godly homes, to maintain and preserve what we have been raised with. It will be a lifelong challenge for all of us to hang onto the moral and spiritual foundations we are given. For those raised without that training the battle is even more intense. It is imperative as parents that we teach, re-teach and teach again the basic truths of following God and godly living. This is the greatest gift we have for our children. Today, reflect on the truths you were raised in and, as they align with Scripture, grab hold and pass them on. #BeTheEdge

“But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have become convinced of, because you know those from whom you learned it, and how from infancy you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.” 2 Timothy 3:14-15 NIV
