Proverbs 7:22 NIV

“All at once he followed her like an ox going to the slaughter, like a deer stepping into a noose”

This picture is of an ox being deceived into believing it is headed to greener, tastier pasture. In the same way it suddenly seems to the lost that there is a great reward and pleasures awaiting them down the road of sin. Of course only the most ignorant and blind don’t recognize the consequences awaiting them on the road of a sinful life but here Solomon shows the instant one is overwhelmed by the seductive enticement of a particular sin. They go from ‘not going to do it ‘ to ‘all in’ in an instant and are hanging from the theoretical noose before they can back out. That is sins plan. The evil one only desires to steal, kill and destroy. He wants us in the trap of sin. As I’ve mentioned before one of the questions teenagers use to ask me was how close to sin can they get before it’s too late. You can imagine the different scenarios they described. My counsel was always to remind them that it was like trying to determine how close they can get to the edge of a cliff before they went too far and fell over. The answer was always the step before they found themselves falling over the edge. At that point it is too late to turn back. The only truly safe place is as far back from the edge as possible. Sin will draw you close and then push. Today flee temptation and live. #BeTheEdge

“Flee the evil desires of youth and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, along with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart.” 2 Timothy‬ ‭2‬:‭22‬ ‭NIV‬‬
