Proverbs 8:22 NIV

“The Lord brought me forth as the first of his works, before his deeds of old;”

Solomon identifies the subject of this verse and chapter as Wisdom. In this particular instance he is not talking about an impersonal quality or character trait. In the original language he is talking about a person. Without knowing His future name almost all Biblical scholars agree the reference is to Jesus, the second person in the Trinity. Jesus referred to Himself as ‘the wisdom of God’. Other New Testament writers did as well. It is significant that He shows up in multiple places throughout the Old Testament. These occurrences are know as pre-incarnate visits by the coming Savior. It is even speculated by many theologians that Melchizedek was Jesus in a pre incarnate visit with Abraham. Whatever happened in the Old Testament we can be sure that the Wisdom God gives to His followers is a powerful gift. The Wisdom of Jesus. Before creation Jesus was there with the Father. I find it pretty cool that what the prophets and Solomon wrote about they did not even understand to the extent we get to. With the revelation of God in the New Testament comes greater understanding of these truths and an even greater responsibility to live by them. We are even more without excuse because God has blessed us with deeper insight into Him and His Kingdom through His Spirit. Today live as those given such a powerful gift. #BeTheEdge
