Proverbs 9:1 NIV

“Wisdom has built her house; she has set up its seven pillars.”

As we see so often in Proverbs and reiterated in the book of James in the New Testament, God is neither hiding nor hoarding His wisdom. He offers it generously to all including the gullible and the slow. He wants all of us to receive it freely. The picture here is of a tempting and luxurious feast. How can we resist? It is amazing to consider how foolishly many do. The seven pillars of wisdom are refer to throughout scripture as “fear of the Lord, instruction, knowledge, understanding, discretion, counsel, and reproof.” A life built with these will not lack in insight and wisdom. In this verse we also are reminded of the picture so often seen in scripture of people hanging out and dining together. My friend Rev Bill Muir taught me decades ago the value of a basket of chips and some good queso. Lounging over appetizers, cold tea and conversation is one of the great gifts God gives. It is natural that scripture often sets a similar picture for this life and coming interactions in eternity. Those who know me know I love to linger over a meal to visit and learn. Today enjoy the offer of fellowship God offers. #BeTheEdge

“They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.”Acts‬ ‭2‬:‭42‬ ‭NIV‬‬
